I went there to enjoy volleyball
It was in November, 2009 that I ventured to Seoul again for the second time. On Facebook, I saw something posted about some gay guys playing volleyball, so I sent a message to the person in charge of that posting. The person, a nice Filipino guy who had been working and living in Korea for ten years, welcomed me to come, provided me with directions for where to meet him, and he even recommended some shoes good for playing volleyball.
I've forgotten the name of that area of Seoul where we met, but I do remember us meeting near a subway station exit and enjoying some bread, coffee, and conversation before heading off to the gym.
What I had in mind was some leisurely volleyball by gay people gathered just to have a fun time, but it turned out to be a gay volleyball team meeting up for a regular (and serious) practice session that lasted all day. Nothing wrong with that, but I mostly just sat around and watched. After practice, we all headed out for dinner and a couple of the guys offered me a ride. But, before dinner, they helped me locate a motel in the area. Cool huh!
Dinner was great! After that we all went out for some beer and (more) food. After hanging out for an hour or so, I decided to leave the group and go to my room. In the dark of night, I didn't notice the temple next to the motel. However, the next day I noticed when the LOUD bell rang twelve times at noon (It did not ring at any other time.)!
After waking up, I decide that I would just walk around randomly, and see what was out there and beyond.
Incidentally, the motel only charged 35,000 wons, and I returned to it on other trips to Seoul.
